Setting Up Camp in Inclement Weather

tentAlthough it would be nice if every camping excursion were characterized by warm temperatures and low winds, the reality is somewhat different. Camping trips are often planned weeks in advance after much work is done to clear schedules and secure reliable transportation. By the time the big day arrives, backing out because of bad weather just isn’t an option. It’s therefore critical for campers to learn to adapt.

When pitching your Paha Que tents in inclement weather, spend as much time as you need to find a suitable location. There’s nothing worse than going through the process of setting up camp - pounding the stakes into the ground, erecting the fiberglass tent poles and so on - only to find that the elements are making the tent uninhabitable. Move your operation to the leeward side of a stand of trees or a rock outcropping; that way you’ll have protection from the wind and the prevailing rain direction.

Protection from Mammoth Midwestern Mosquitoes

Northern Michigan is a fantastic place to be in the summer. Now that it’s winter, my husband and I are taking our annual snowbirds trip down to a gated community in Arizona. Still, when summer rolls around we’ll be headed for home to indulge in some carefree living on the breezy shores of Lake Huron. My only complaint about the Midwest in summertime is that the mosquitoes run rampant.

No matter how many citronella candles we light and how much DEET-filled pest sprays we daub on our bodies, there just doesn’t seem to be any relief. It’s even worse after a refreshing summer rain, when the mosquitoes begin to swarm in the damp air. Last year we had finally reached our last straw. We didn’t want to surrender the outdoors experience to the winged pests, so we put up a few Paha Que tents with mosquito netting.

Paha Que TentsBeing a camper for many years, I know first hand that finding the right tent for different camping situations is very important.  When I started out camping years ago, I used a canvas pup tent with tie straps. The problem was, it was very large and very heavy tent and not at all easily portable. Today’s tents are extremely durable and so light-weight unlike the heavy canvas tents we used so long ago.

Today, camping tents are offered by quality manufacturers such as Eureka Tents and Paha Que tents. Because of so many different camping needs, they are able to offer a wide variety of tent products. Many of the tents that we are speaking about offer, in addition to being lightweight, special features, such as, multiple windows, built in awnings and rainflys, and multiple rooms.
