Kirk Creek Campground
We are fortunate here in the U.S. to have extensive campgrounds and protected nature areas. Though I’ll never be able to see every local, state, and national park across the country, but I am trying to see the highlights. A friend recently recommended Kirk Creek Campground in California’s Los Padres National Forest.
The campground, he told me, is out on a bluff about 30 miles south of Big Sur. Trails lead down to the beach, which I’m sure my kids will love. In the area are sandstone formations in Rancho Nuevo, Morro Rock, and the Seven Sisters. The Piedra Blanca-Gene Marshall trail is nearby, too, but I don’t know that we’ll have time for all that. My focus now is on planning the trip and finding our Eureka family tent.
Repairing Screen Tents
Just because there is a tear in a section of a screen tent does not mean that you should throw the whole thing out. With a few supplies and a little bit of know-how you can repair all sorts of screen tents. Start by trimming the loose pieces of screen and removing the loose threads and torn bits.
Next, thread a needle with a section fishing line that is twice as long as the rip or tear. The free end of the line should be tied to the untorn portion of the screen at one end of the rip. Pinch the torn edges and sew the rip shut. Cut the line and knot the end (you may want to add a dab of glue on the knot for extra security).
